ALTER DO CHÃO BEACH
The beach of "Alter do Chão", also called "Brazilian Caribbean", is an island surrounded by white sands, lapped by the River Tapajós, in the municipality of Santarém, which is in front of a village with the same name.
This town has grown considerably in recent years due to tourism and because of the beauty of this beach. Today it has a reasonable infrastructure in paved road, hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and bus service daily.
In September, the natives of the town with the help of the city of Santarem, promote a big party for three days, call Sairé, where the main attraction is a dispute between two groups (Pink Dolphin and Tucuxi Grey Dolphin) that enact the legend of the Amazons, where the dolphin becomes a man in full moon nights at parties and appears to seduce and impregnate Cunhantã.
Amazon in the dry season, the swimmers can access the island across a shallow creek on foot. During the rainy season this path is via small boats called catraias.
